HOW TO AVOID SICKLE CELL

How to avoid sickle cell anaemia

Normally a person inherits two copies of the gene that produces beta-globin, a protein needed to produce normal hemoglobin (hemoglobin A, genotype  written as AA).

A person with sickle cell trait inherits one normal allele and one abnormal allele encoding hemoglobin S (hemoglobin genotype   written as  AS).

Now to avoid sickle cell the  gold is to avoid couples with sickle cell trait (As) coming together because when  As and  As come together and start having children there's a probability that they will have a sickle cell child  at a  25% rate,

So the best thing is for each one of us to do the Hb genotype test before starting a relationship of any type, once done and if it shows AA (Normal)  you can marry anyone but if it shows AS (Carrier) know that you can marry only someone who is AA.

This is important for everyone to know
So go for your sickle  HB genotype test now.
